Introduction: The Loves of My Life

Let me start out be saying that my name is Jennifer Nygren but I prefer to be called Jenny.  I'm a senior majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Spanish at the University of Oklahoma.  Instead of telling you what I'm involved in, I have decided to write about my passions and interests, because I feel that helps people know so much more about who I am.  I have a compiled a list of three things that I love, in no particular order and in complete spontaneity.  These are just three loves that spoke to me while writing this post on the last day of summer vacation.

Firstly, I love traveling and exploring new places.  I should be more specific and say that I love arriving at a new destination and soaking in the surroundings.  I studied abroad in Spain during the month of June and can't convey how amazing the experience was.  I had the pleasure of visiting 4 different countries (Spain, Sweden, Portugal and England) and this gave me a huge bite from the travel bug.  The idea of traveling to a new corner of the world is effervescent.

Secondly, I love football.  The football program was a big influence to me when I chose to attend the University of Oklahoma.  Growing up my dad was frequently out of town, but during the times when he was in town we'd spend hours watching football games on Saturdays and Sundays.  This passion even led me to pursue a marketing internship with the OU Athletic Marketing Department, which I held from 2013-2014.

Thirdly, I love art.  Growing up I was always a bit of tom-boy, but a tom-boy that loved reading, writing and photographs.  One of the reasons that I am taking this class is because the homework is doing activities that I think are fun!  I feel like there is a thrill in art.  You can turn each page in a book and never know what's written on the other side.  You can start writing and have no idea where the story is going to go.  And you can take a photograph and have no clue how it's going to turn out.  Below is a picture of me and my best friend, Tori, taken on a Polaroid camera during a night of unexpected experiences.  It could have turned out atrocious, but instead it preserved one of my new favorite memories.

  1. Hi Jenny! I am so curious to see what you will think about the Myth-Folklore course... the whole idea of traveling and exploring new places is very much how the class is organized — even if they are just journeys of the imagination that will take you around the world! And I love what you said here about the thrill of turning each page in a book: that's how I feel about learning online... not just pages in a book with a mystery at every turn of the page, but also that sense of curiosity before every click of a link: where will it take me, and what will I learn...? Anyway, I hope you will enjoy another semester of stories, and I am looking forward to seeing what direction you will take with it all this time!

  2. Nice to meet you, Jenny! Since you’re a senior this semester, I hope that the remaining year you have left at OU will be the best yet! How amazing it is that you got to travel to so many countries in Europe. I hope to visit Europe one day, especially England, Spain, and France! What place was your favorite? I like your outlook on art and how there’s a thrill in it. I agree that it’s like an adventure in that you never know what’s going to be next. Hopefully this class can cultivate your love for the arts! Have a great year~

  3. Hi, Jenny!
I'm also a senior majoring in public relations!
It sounds like you had a really awesome summer, especially getting to study abroad in Spain.
Since you love football, I bet you're extremely excited for the game this Saturday!
I love how you describe art; how unexpected and thrilling it can be. That's a mature and great way to think about it.
I hope you've had a wonderful first week back and that the rest of your semester proves to be one of great memories, just like the night with your best friend.

  4. I know I’m late to the party with commenting on this post but It’s nice to meet you. It’s cool that you have traveled to those places. I don’t get to travel much so I sometimes envy those who go to different countries. I’ve always enjoyed art regardless in the form, whether its music, film, photography, or dance. I like to try to create my own in one of those forms but I don’t have the creative mind for it. I liked the way you organized this blog so that it is easier to read.

  7. Hi Jenny!
I also have a sister named Jenny(though not the one taking this class with me). Studying abroad in Spain sure looks like a lot of fun. How neat that you also got to go to other countries. What was your favorite thing that you got to do in Spain? Of the countries you went to, which one do you want to go back and see the most? All of them doesn't count. I am also a senior here at OU, I hope you have a great semester, best of luck to you.

  10. Hi Jenny!
I love how you let me get to know you a little better by telling me about your passions! I also got to study in Europe this summer. I love the picture you posted with the beautiful Cathedral in the background. I visited Spain a few years ago and LOVED it! I want to go back. What different cities did you visit there? Right now, I am also doing an internship with football, but its on the athletic training side of things. I think it's really cool how OU offers us different opportunities to do what we love, while expanding our experiences and resume. Lastly, I have always wanted a Polaroid camera. It's something that I miss about childhood photos, not being able to see them until they were developed. It's almost like a surprise then. No one is picture perfect but that's what makes it special.

  11. Hi Jenny! I can relate to all of your passions. I love traveling and most of the time I would rather talk to an international student and learn about their life then talk to the same people I already know. My best friend is french, we played rugby together and hopefully I will go live and play with him after graduation. This ties into your second passion, sports. I played football at Union HS, and rugby here at OU and for mens teams. Thirdly, I am a graphic designer, so I love art and design. I'm even minoring in art history. I also worked at Lindsey + Asp for a little bit if you know what that is, at Gaylord, so PR is definitely tied into my design. You seem very cool!

  12. Hey Jenny! I like how you talked about your passions instead of a regular introduction post. I am taking Spanish 2113 this semester, and I am HORRIBLE at Spanish, I might need your help. Totally kidding, but thats awesome you are minoring in Spanish it will open so many more doors for you. Traveling is one of my passions as well, I love going somewhere new and seeing all the different things. Every place is so much different then all the other places I have been to, and I find that to be cool! Football is also another passion of mine, I love going to OU home games. Traveling to new stadiums is fun too, seeing how all the different fan bases act to opposing teams fans is always different. I can't say I have a passion for art, I am not very creative or artistic, and I have found this class to be a little more challenging to me for that simple fact. Maybe as the semester goes on I will become more creative. It was good to get to know you!

  13. Hey Jenny!

Your summer sounded so amazing! I studied abroad in Italy this summer and it was such an amazing experience, too! I loved hearing about it and seeing your picture. I, too, am a huge football fan. I love going to the OU football games but growing up, I was not an OU fan so I have to make up all of those years of missing out on great football. Good luck this semester! It sounds like you are getting into something that you are really interested in which always makes school a lot more fun!

  14. Hi there Jenny!

First of all, I think it's cool that you're minoring in Spanish, a few of my friends are doing this too and they seem to really enjoy it! You're traveling experience seems so cool. It has always been a dream of mine to travel more outside of the U.S and I would love to visit England one day. Lastly, I love that you love art! I really like sketching and have been drawing for some time now, so it's nice to meet someone who enjoys art too!

It was great learning more about you and great to meet you!

  15. Hi, Jenny!

I LOVED THIS! It was really different from the other intros I've read so far, and I found it's uniqueness really charming. I would definitely have to agree with people's passions telling you more about them than their involvement.

I really couldn't relate to your football passion more! My dad didn't travel for work often, but he would frequently camp out at the office all weekend doing work. But, he would never miss a Bronco game (he and my mom are both from Denver)! I think my love for football was probably born on the couch with him on Sunday afternoons. I bet that internship was awesome!

I also agree that art is a thrill! This class was so appealing to me because I had heard about all of the creative writing. I am definitely not an english major, but creative wiring is definitely once of my passions.

It was so nice to read your post, and I am looking forward to reading more!

  17. Hello Jenny,
I think it is so cool that you went to Spain for the summer. I hope I am able to do the study abroad trip next summer. What was your favorite place in Spain? It’s awesome that you and your dad bonded over football, my dad and I did the same over basketball. Your thoughts on art are very inspiring and I wholeheartedly agree about the thrill of it. Have a good rest of the semester!

  18. Hi Jenny!

I think it is awesome that you love art! I think art is one of the most fascinating things in the world because there are so many different forms of it! Each piece is so unique and brings its own character to where ever it is being displayed! The different forms are also unique in themselves! I also think it is awesome that you pursued an internship with the Athletic Department here! I hope you enjoyed it! Traveling is also one of my passions. I love to get out and just go explore new places! Have a great semester!

  19. Hi Jenny! Nice to meet you! It's so cool to see that you got visit all those countries. I went to England last year and I loved it! So I am glad you got an opportunity to go. I can't tell you how much I love football. I feel so connected to OU football that after every loss I feel very depressed (happened last week against Texas- I still don't know how we lost that game). Anyway, I am still hopeful for a championship this year :) Again, nice to meet you. Boomer Sooner!

  20. Hey Jenny! sounds like your summer was full of fun events! I think it is pretty cool how you went to Europe and got see other countries and cultures. I as well have been to Europe and I have to say I also got a bite of the travel bug. I also think its cool that you are minoring in spanish because a second language always comes in handy for many things. As for football I also like to watch OU football but believe it or not i have only been to one game in the whole four years I have been here. Anyways, nice to meet you, I hope you are having a great semester!

  21. Hi Jenny! It's really nice to meet you. I really liked the way you wrote your introduction; it is nice to have an introduction to read that isn't set up exactly the same as others. It's nice to read something different every once in a while. Traveling is so great and such a wonderful thing to do in your lifetime. Also, go Sooners! I've never been a big football fan, but I know how important to most of Norman, haha.

  23. Hello, Jenny. It was nice to read about you interests and to meet you. There are a few places I would like to visit in the U.S. but other than that I don't really have much an interest in traveling to other countries. I share the love of football though. I spend the later part of the week and all weekend watching football every weekend. It was nice to meet you. Good luck on all of your future plans.

  24. Hello Jenny!

That is so awesome that you were able to travel to those countries! I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Spain to summers ago and it was the best experience! I learned so much about myself. That's awesome that you have an internship with OU Athletics! I am in the marching band so I go to all of the football games. It is so fun to be on the sideline supporting the Sooners!
